We all know the old story; it is important that you decide against driving to the airport because if you do then you will be left with a bill at the end of the week that puts your mortgage to shame. This is a myth that has perpetuated the folk law of airports and, sadly, the result is that many people subsequently decide to use other forms of transport in the hope that they can keep costs down. £24 for one day does sound expensive at first, yet when you break it down you realise that it works out at £1 per hour. This really isn’t that much money when you consider that you will be able to get back home without any hassle involved in dragging all your bags to the train station at a time when all you really want to do is get home and relax.
If you also consider that the other option in terms of transport to the airport is a train then you will see that it does work out cheaper to drive instead. The average cost of train fares taking you to Gatwick airport is upwards of £100. This is because it is incredibly expensive to get the train into London and the net result of this is that you end up spending a fortune on train fares. That £100 equates to around 5 days in the car park and, when you factor in the cost of buses to the airport from the station, you soon realise that the cheapest option by far is to drive.
